Position: Caregiver “Nanny” Full time (4411)
Job Duties: Supervision and full-time care for twin girls that are 7 years old, plus modest support for a largely independent 13-year old boy. Children are in school full-time but one child has special needs (non-verbal autism) so extra help outside school hours is required including some weekend hours. There are two positions on offer.
Before school support 700-1100…) includes helping the children dress for school, provide breakfast, prepare a healthy lunch for school, and walk the children to school (0.7 km from house) for 8.45 am start. Light household duties after children are at school including laundry, clean-up after meals, etc.
After-school support (2:00-8:00) includes picking children up from school, preparing and feeding dinner to children, walking children to any afterschool activities and/or playdates, engaging children in physical activities (e.g., walks, biking, etc.), supervising homework, and bathing children in preparation for bed. Light clean-up duties after mealtime.
One weekend afternoon respite support (2:00-7:00) includes providing meals for children, engaging children in activities, bath time routine, possibly accompanying children to organized activities.
Details about both positions:
Reading books to children is a daily activity. Instruct and aid children in personal hygiene, social development, and discipline according to parent guidance. Tend to the emotional well-being of the child according to parent guidance. Prepare nutritious meals and snacks with an interest in exploring new ways to introduce a healthy variety at mealtimes. Help children with homework as needed. Maintain a safe and healthy environment in the home. Perform light housekeeping and organizational duties as assigned. Carry out small household errands as required.
One twin has Autism Spectrum Disorder (non-verbal) so requires additional guidance in dressing, feeding, etc. She responds well to positive reinforcement and a fun-loving, energetic attitude, while also seeking a regular schedule.
Terms of employment: These are both full-time positions, each offering 30 hours per week (including one weekend half-day) with a lot of opportunity for overtime hours if candidate is interested (e.g., there are many snow days, sick days, evening hours) as well as some overnights. Occasional travel with family.
Skills: Preference given to applicants with previous experience, childcare courses and first aid training, experience with autistic children, driving license (but not essential), and excellent references. Strong command of English is important. Looking for a candidate that is energetic and fun-loving, independent (can set routines and activities to keep household running with minimal oversight), and flexible (open to extra hours as needed, willing to communicate collaboratively and positively with co-worker around childrens’ needs).
